Subject to Change: A Remote Installation, 2017
I created a collaborative month-long exhibition and installation with the sculpture/installation class at Spokane Falls Community College. All instructions and design directions were created by me in my studio in Upstate New York and executed by the students in Spokane.
Drawing on inspiration from the work of artist Sol Lewitt, the children’s game of Telephone, and the popular television series Project Runway, I sent the class instructions, templates and materials packed in a series of boxes. In order to keep the material and shipping costs low, I utilized light-weight, common materials found at the hardware store, such as drop cloths, plastic sheeting, scrap wood, duct tape, pom poms, twine and rope. As the project unfolded I responded through emailed photographs and proposed new directions. The process was documented in real-time using hashtags on Instagram.
